"Reason to believe" by organic io
Dedicated to: Cami - My reason to believe
Genre: Happy Hardcore
BPM: 190

This is my submission to SDCompo round 25's unofficial theme of "Cheese". What better way
to celebrate cheese than with a Happy Hardcore lovesong!? I've always wanted to do a Happy
hardcore song, and I've always wanted to do a song with this, one of the most overused (yet
beautiful) chord progressions in the history of pop music.
So.. My intention here was not to make something original, but just to produce a solid dance
tune :)

The main thing I would change is the Piano sample, there just wasn't a very good one in the
vsti pack and thus, it sounds more like a toy piano. I'll be putting a better piano vsti in
there and releasing a non-compo version after voting is finished.
I also wouldn't have minded if the break sections and subsequent buildups were a little more
drawn out (I LOVE builups! especially on the dancefloor), but I was already approaching the
5 minute mark and wanted to keep it concise. The problem in a lot of my dance-oriented
songs is that I have too many pauses and sections without beats, so I tried to avoid that
with this one and keep it pumping most of the way through. I hope you enjoy!

Lyrics:

{first break section}
Remember the time when you and I
Were first together
It was like paradise
All that we shared
We knew more would follow
Blossoming into intense desire
You are my reason to believe

Oh! You are my reason to believe
(repeat)

{countermelody}
Remember the time when our hearts filled with laughter
Blossoming into intense desire
The dawn of a new day brings other beginnings
The depth of your love it will show me the answers
Before I stand here and let you go and walk away
I'll show you the beauty that life is worth living
Trust and deep meaning are what we will find here
Our worlds will stay bound with the colour of love
Yeah

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh snap. 190? I have to top that now. thanks. 999 bpm spd1 next round!
vocals kinda crowd each other out sometimes. the first thing that I thought when I heard this was like... this image of this bald badass looking dude just taking off his shirt and raving. at 190 bpm.
I lawl at ur lyrics. they're so cheesy. I think you out-cheesed everybody here. :o

Just love that beat! Happy hardcore is the cure!

MR IO!!! I think you got you wanted here. I am trying my best critique :) . Song - Excellent structure. The beginning made me want to get my whistle and horn out.
The bassbeat is perfect "happy" for me. The synth lines are largely well fitting but I would have liked
a touch more filter movement/resonance. Maybe a high octave picked blip or two to coincide with the 4 minute leadish sound. Good use of beat stopping and dropping.
The vocals? Ok. Sometimes sound a little muffled. I think this is more to do with the fact that it is a male voice. Maybe try it with a female?
Overall. I enjoyed this track and it 'worked'.

thanks CAG, steg, ambtax! since it's a lovesong to my gf, i don't think female vocals would have made much sense. otherwise i would have definitely used melodyne to pitch them up an octave!

Comment by ambtax1 on 2008-03-27 07:14:00

What's melodyne like io? I have never used it. Oooh...just getting the "cheeze-ometer " out on this track. Beeeeeeeep.......beeeeeep..........beep....beep....beep....beep...beep....
beep,beep,beep,beep,beep,b,b,b,b,b,b,b.........What's this? We have "cheeze-ometer" rating of 'Limburger'.. Well done :)

I played it for my girlfriend last night, it was very successful with the target audience. She cried cheesy tears of joy, and the kiss she gave me afterwards made all the hours I spent well worth it :)

Haha original it is!! Fresh young-cheese from head to tail!
Great structure, very catchy refrain! Nice melodies and voicing over the chords. Keep on fermenting.

a great effort for it represents! it's real fun to listen to and then the extremely cute vocals !
i had a constant smile on my face throughout the entire 04:53 mins of playtime. keep the vibe fellow raver ! ;D

As cheezy as it may be, it's also very well made. The lyrics are beautiful, and the song made my morning. Strikingly catchy, makes me want to listen to it again and again. Rave on. ;-)

hahahaha yes! good production man... although i think you listen to too much Madonna. :P

i'm so glad you are keeping the novelty tradition alive. and as it were, you actually have quite a good and catchy chorus theme. also, you prove your skills with stacking vocal parts. :)

word.

LOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK man, that's great. glad it had the desired results. :P

I jokingly made Chicago's 'You're the Inspiration' in Impulse Tracker, and sang the vocals with false sincerity.

this is why directionless can't make it work.

sorry that i'm coming across as a heartless bastard. truth be told, i am the teary-eyed one in my (most recently broken) family relationship. Certainly not over songs hehe :P But when she sprung me out of jail the 2nd time (for example), i opened the floodgates in an oscar winning moment. So please take no offense. I'm with ya. Just a lot more cynical these days.

Love this tune.. really interesting all the way through. Pumping beat and cool melodies, and sounds really well-mixed to me. And I'm with drye, I find the lyrics pretty beautiful actually! Open and honest, good luck to you and your gal. Very happy tune.

back for drug comments:

bass kick too much overdrive maybe. def piano too tiny.

lead vocals probably a bit too prominent. chorus is still so nice. happy track. i hate you. ;)

Oh my god - this tune brings back the good old days to my mind, when i was on those "never to be forgotten" partys in the netherlands.
Happy Hardcore will never die 8D
Never stop that feeling baby :-)

The first impression was "boring" but this track was not such. The piano and vocal matched.
The five-second-gem was found from 1:33.
