Trackname: Mindgrower
Length: 7:28 min

Argh a typo - the name is Mindflower - damn alcohol :-)

7:28? According to Winamp it's 3:14 ;)

But it's really nice, I especially like the beat (except for the fact that it sounds like you have a delay effect on them). This song reminds me of a dark movie, something like Matrix or Batman...

Comment by JustinCredible on 2008-07-28 06:07:53

Well, it is definitely 7:28 min - but thanks for your comment :-)

Comment by sam_m on 2008-07-28 06:35:36

when I play it from my hdd, winamp agrees with you...

A bit long and slow, but if you take the time you'll get the trancey tribal buddha vibe. I like the flute thingy at the mid-end :)

Hi there. Allow me to say a few words about strong and weak sides on my opinion. Without evasiveness and compromises :-)

strong: nice drums, nice rhythm, nice mood, suitable instruments.

weak: too long, too short arp.synth attack time sounds like click or scratch (like damaged recordings), too much information put into antiphase space.

resume: cool. I like Your composition, it sounds like some retro tracks on "electronic collection" CDs.

Comment by Airmann on 2008-07-29 06:29:49

Hi Justin,

Pro's: Very chilled and relaxing. 3:14++ is cool. Sounds china-asia-sitar-like.
Con's: I also tink that it is too long. And I agree with Necto Ulin that the arp.synth sounds clicky.

All in all nice laid back "Entspannungsmucke"

Playing this in Deliplayer seems to say it is 3:44 long ??? But it does play the whole 7:28. poosibly a little slow to get going but does maintain interest. All sounds in there own space too.
I can't say your song excites me JC but very laid back and listenable none the less. With overall excellent progression.

I actually don't believe this piece is too long except for the bad luck that it's in a compo that has some 80 minutes of other peoples' music that you have to get to, so it becomes a choice between making the best piece possible and making the piece that will win over the voters in the compo ;) This music does progress as this sort of piece should.

Comment by Knetter on 2008-07-30 17:33:54

Let me rephrase, not *too* long and slow. I like the total progression and ease of the song. BTW, its quite hard to keep it interesting with that speed and length, but it is well done.

chill vibe. great sound!

The funk! The groove! It's here! There are really nice ideas in this track but I feel like they could be condensed. I really like the groove, pads, drums, melodies all ound great. It just sounds like they are spread out a bit sparsely. It's not the tempo because the beat is groovy as all heck.
For example, if the track started at 2:40, what would be missing? The gradual intro and introduction of the 1st melody. Then if it ended at 6:13 it would be missing the gradual outro. That would take the 7:28 down to 3:33.
Now maybe you say "screw that! I want all 7mins and 28secs!" In that case I would put in some bridge chords to change the mood up (at least once in 7mins) OR breaks where the pad drops out to divide things up a bit. Perhaps some drum / bass breaks.
The mix is clean and well done.
Overall this track has a great feel with very appealing ideas. I have been listening to it many times, I just wish I could process the ideas faster so I could repeat the track again. Great job JC!

@micrip - you might let me have a look at your remastered version - it would be very interesting for me :-)
Thanks at all of you for your comments - very much appreciated as always.

Agreed about the spot on mixing. This track is a nice mellow journey that is not upfront, but well suited to background listening. Very hypnotic vibe. Excellent percussion. I like it, Credible... You always do your own thing regardless. Respect

It's funky as all get out! :D
