Authors' Notes
"The Spirit", a rushed xmas entry by Disco Calienteness
credits:
All tracking done by ambtax1
Lyrics by organic io (I actually tried to make something rhyme?????!?)
Vocals by both
Lyrics:
Verse 1:
Buying lots of presents
"you better not pout"
getting all the toys
that's not what it's about
Shopping at the mall
the carols you sing
the true spirit of christmas
is none of these things
chorus:
The true spirit of Christmas
Is only known by a few
But if you try hard to feel Christmas
Maybe the spirit will come to you
Verse 2:
Receiving in the mail
a zillion christmas cards
putting up the lights
all out in the yard
This year christmas
started before halloween
lost in the rush
people are rude and mean
Chorus:
The true spirit of Christmas
Is only known by a few
But if you try hard to feel Christmas
Maybe the spirit will come to you
Verse 3:
Consumerism is not
the means to this end
if you keep it up
you will find no friends
Stockings on the wall
Bells that ring
the true spirit of christmas
is none of these things

Wonderful !!! Clap ClapClap CalpClap Clap :-)) .... I totally agree with the message. One of my absolute favs here (though so many favs at the moment).
Your singing works and it doesn't matter that it sometimes is not 100% and clips at some positions. Maybe more compression would be an improvement ?
Anyway: it transports the message and atmosphere very well. The best song I heared from you both so far ... congrats ! And ... let's seek the root of real xmas again

Backing track is solid and supports the vocals well. The singing was a little off-key and clipped at times, but the melody was good and I liked the message. Of course, shops and the media will continue to promote a consumerist Christmas because it`s profitable..

The singing? Umm... ok. But the lyrics were so true. The melody is so heart touching, really fits. Had the singing been polished (clipping especially), it could be X-Mas top hit :D

I've messed with it. Yes I know it's cheating but, come on, it's christmas.

ok, I really really like the retouch. :) it fixes a lot of the vocal issues. I still would like to hear the vocals sync up a bit more, but it's hard when two people are singing across the internet, eh?
ok, onto the original:
the lead synth reminds me of earthbound... ahh. I actually like the exposed singing in this one, as opposed to the constant duet going on the refurbished. the backing track is nice and cute (?). awesome.

Now that's what I'm talking about...

I love the intro! Great mood/chords. The intro is great. Great composition and orchestration!
The vocals were too domineering (even without the clipping) - The raw quality of the vocals were nice, but a bit of treatment would have really made the song more listenable. If I get time over the break, I might have a go at the xnrs :)

I am going to go take three I think. I will have a word with Scott. :)
It sounded good last night. Not so this morning. Oh how I hate that.

Great composition. Wasn't too keen on the vocals, I kinda would like to hear it without them.

The vocals are nice (with some fixes), but in some places they meander aimlessly (rhythmlessly?), sort of like trying to get the words out rather than singing. Good composition though.

Good song! The vocal would be better if it didn't distort- it's easier to compress and raise a quiet vocal than fix a distorted one. I'm pretty sure I remember one of you saying it was done quickly.

This was my #2. IMO totally underrated. I don't understand it :-?. What's wrong with voting here ??? Or am I just too old ?

:) Thanks Airmann. It's no biggie. We would be pleased to continue making music largely misunderstood :-D
