Authors' Notes
Hi party-people,
this tune was inspired by the impressive movie "Avatar".
Unfortunately it was made with Renoise 2.5 B8. Moreover, it's still unfinished.
But anyway I like it !

Very nice melody and rhythms - more soon.

This has a nice flow to it, with little subtleties that i didn't really notice on first listen.
I like songs where I hear something new each listen.
I like the airy kind of 'reverb' or echo on the lead.

love the drum programming, the way the beat carries the song forward always. I think the melody is a bit too much sometimes like too much delay effect and not enough humanizing. Do you plan to add anything more to this? It would be nice to see how you would expand it.

Haven't seen the movie. Clear sound. Think the melody doesn't do it for me. Maybe I miss a bit roughness.

Thx guys.
@Knetter: watch this movie in 3D in Cinema - just Do it ! You don't want to miss a cinematic-historical event.
what disturbs exactly about the melody ? Is it just a matter of taste or any other issue like instrumentation/roughness ?
@tenfour: thanks about the delay/humanization hint. I'll check it out. Maybe I'll expand this one.

Hey Airmann,
This track has a nice pop feel to it.
It does feel like their is something missing but I can't think what it is.

Haven't seen the movie too.
The track has an mechanical atmosphere, like it would be side-effect music at construction site.
Refreshing but some kind of hard - personally I would not listen this track repeated again and again.

Hey Marko thanks for the comment :-). Very worthwile hint about the "hardness". That's something I recognized, too.
Maybe there are too many percussive elements or distortion dsps / too few softer stuff like pads in it. Maybe I'll work it out in a later version.

Hey Airmann, I think its a matter of taste. I do like your powerfull bassdrum punch a lot and the chords that alternate with the flutish melody! Its coll that the beat changes along with these chillish chords.
regarding Avatar: Com'on the plot!! Its so standard leftish against the "great greedy company". Must do lot of effort to filter that out and only watch the animation techniques I guess.

Thanks Knetter, good to see there are different views
Regarding avatar:
So you've seen it :-) ? in 3D ? Great !
well, Avatar's basic story is not new: Pocahontas, Conquest of Paradise (Ridley Scott), Dances with the wolf and so on - we already had it. Moreover, James Cameron used a lot of ideas from other Science Fiction authors. And agreed: it also touches some current political topics like environmental protection, greed and so on, but all those things didn't bother me at all, because for me the main expression of the movie is the desire for a better world - the longing for paradise. I just love such stories and of course the created world. Especially the 3D experience was really new for me. I've been in 3D IMax short films before, but it's different than a whole movie which is recorded by using two HD cameras. But in the end even a great movie like this is a matter of taste, like everything else :-).

The first impression is the clever baseline, a pleasant melody, and the sound that starts at 1:51 is cool.
I like it.

I like the bounce of the overall beat. Well put together, and clever. I feel it runs out of cleverness a bit, there's still more to be had from this theme! A different lead sound that cuts in, and plays a small variation in just one short place would make things shine.
Not much reminds me of Avatar though, but o well. :) Except perhaps the airy voice-like feel of the lead blips, that makes it somehow human.
As for mix, the drums and lead are sometimes competing for space in the centerfield.

Hello! You wondered how I develop my tunes? Hmmm this time I played around some day after downloading your EMINENT sample pack.
Unfortunately I worked days and nights, Fortunately I'm in love (strong word for me as I'm a "free soul") and spent much free time with her and my 2 kids 10 & 9 years old :)
A few days before deadline there were only scatterd patterns with test of different styles and I completely lost inspiration.... Had to leave the tracking.
There was a discussion in a thread some months ago about not watching the computer to not get lost in the visuals of the notes etc..
So the last day I was thinking, not about a melody or theme, but just how it could sound if playing a decaying sample backwards with different start points.
Had no Idea wich sample I would use but the cw_stab_shot was Perfect for this! From here the inspiration started to flow, alas the clock then was 23:30...
Anyway I think it got a cool sound, quite different from what I use to make and in spite of the 2+ unfinished minutes in my opinion it deserved a better rank the 2 from the bottom :)
I think I will keep working on this anyway.
Playing around with the sample packs doesn't always start the creative process.
The ideas comes mostly when driving my car to and from work, listening to the radio, jogging , the day after a night out etc. and then it sounds fantastic, with lyrics and all.
But by the end of the day I sit there with my PC and the music is gone. :(
Sometimes it's the lead instrument I start with, sometimes baseline or pads/strings. Seldom drums. I should try to focus on drums more....
I've gotten me a little Olympus VN-2100PC voice recorder to "humm" in to when inspiration comes.. But it is a bit awkward to hear my own off pitch humming so it's often left at home.. :S
Sometimes I manage to sketch a few notes down and save them for some inspiration for next SDC-round but the rules or the sample pack doesn't fit in...
Nevertheless, this little community really inspires! Without it and the comments there might not have been anything done for years.
Especially your comments has been very valuable and has helped me to get a more professional sound, panning rules of thumbs etc.
Even if I'm not 100% agreeing with all, sometimes it is OK for me to put reverb on a baseline ;D
I'm so glad I found this forum :)
It seems to me that you are a Cineast and much inspiration comes from movies, right?
I understand that the feeling from films are a good source of inspiration.
But those times your tunes are not from watching TV/movies, where does your insperation comes from and how do you start?
Sincerely
Joakim Ulfeldt

Wow, big entry Joakim. I'll take time to answer. My process is a bit different, yet similar. More later, maybe better in the Forum ?
